wow...the surgery/surgical subspecialty forum is so quiet...

Anyways, from talking to residents/staff, the top programs are:

U of A - high volume, lots of head and neck, all subspecialties represented, operative experience at early stage

UWO - excellent teaching, interdisciplinary research, all subspecialties represented

U of T - biggest program, lots of fellows, lots of research, all subspecialties represented

Dal - similar to U of A in size, great teaching, young staff, all subspecialties represented

UBC - good program, but hard to get OR time once you complete residency, unless you go to a remote / rural community.

Is this similar across Canada?

I've read several postings that point to difficulty getting OR time in Canada for some physicians. And we often hear about a shortage of doctors and patients who face long waiting times before getting surgery. I was wondering: besides there being a doctor shortage in Canada, is there also a shortage of Operating Rooms in Canada?
