Dentistry After Medicine

Hi, Does anyone know of any accelerated dentistry programs (<4yrs) which accept medical student graduates. I'm looking for a path into dentistry which does not involve starting at day one professional school again! Any program would be helpful (US/Can/Anywhere). THANKS~!

I haven't heard of such a program yet.

You can try the schools (like McGill) that have their med students and dental students in the same class in preclerkship. They might let you skip the pre-clinical years.

The only 3 year program in North America is at the University of the Pacific in California. It's not an accelerated program though because of your MD, it is just a 3-year program.

 

I know people who have their MDs who have gone back and done dental school and they had to do the full dental school program, just as a sidenote.

I am sure about a 3-year programme, but Western seems to educated dent and med students together in some courses. I am not too sure though.

Very unlikely in Canada as the dental schools may not accept your medical courses as equivalent to the ones they require. Also, a number of schools that are integrated with Medicine usually have additional courses in year 1 and 2 that are for dental students only which you need in order to move onto year 3.

At Western the dental school is completely separate from the med school. They do not share any classes together.
