UofO's Information at the HBSU Medical School Symposium

Two U. of Ottawa representatives were present at last night's event: Nicole Racine (MD Admissions Officer) and a second year medical student. They shared the following:

 

1) Last year, UofO received 2447 applications. 690 applicants met the eligibility requirements (pre-requisite courses, etc.) and passed the WGPA cut-offs. These 690 applicants had their sketch assessments reviewed and scored. A rank list of sketch scores was constructed and the individuals receiving one of the top 450 scores received interview invitations.

 

2) The curriculum centers around small group learning, independent learning and lectures. In years 1 and 2, the material is presented in integrated, multidisciplinary blocks.

 

3) The medical student gave a very good presentation containing many photos of his class and himself ( ), but also, demonstrating the UofO electronic curriculum. He walked us through some of the material contained in the cardiovascular unit--overall, it looks quite amazing. All class notes are distributed electronically. Each student has the same laptop and the school provides 5 laptop technicians for the medical students.
