FMX
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/canadian-surgeons-face-flat-lining-job-market/article1920006/page1/ Hopefully this article will help reduce the pre-med competition by a little bit .. This is kind of scary, I'm leaving one professional group because of poor job outlook only to jump into another pool of potentially over-educated-under-paid-jobless grads.. apache
the paradox of being a specialist, a great job... if you can find one don't worry, these problems only exist if you're in a specialty that's really tech heavy and has a crapload of overhead that comes with paying you (cardiac and neuro-surg come to mind right now), lots of hospitals would love to hire a great new surgeon, except there's not enough o.r. time, or random other resource. if you go into fm, general im, psych you won't have any trouble finding a job practically anywhere. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/canadian-surgeons-face-flat-lining-job-market/article1920006/page1/ Hopefully this article will help reduce the pre-med competition by a little bit .. liverpool
things can change though...but kind of sucky for those that are just finishing a residency like that now, in 10 years the job market and status of the Canadian healthcare system could be completly different
GGGSaint
Things will change in 10 years without a doubt. Wouldn't be surprised if some capital incentive wasn't put in place (i.e. public -> two tier) as frustrations/complaints pile up with the current system we have. It's awesome to have accessibility for all...but when the waiting lists are ridiculous and qualified graduates can't get work while there is demand...there is something to be for changes to come. Will be interesting to follow this! ps: Also, feel horrible for the ortho (and other surgical specialists) grads that are surviving on locums or doing endless fellowships. That just isn't right.
