melatonin

At what time do you take it? How much are you taking? What sleeping habit are you trying to break? Are you doing luminotherapy with it?

You have to remember that melatonin isn't approved by the FDA and Heath Canada (not saying I don't believe in it), therefore dosage is something that you are figuring out by yourself and the amount needed differs quite a bit between individuals.

Too bad this wasn't last week, otherwise I would have loved to give you some of my test stress.

My advise though is to use something else to help you fall asleep though. Stop the melatonin. I always drink warm milk with vanilla when I can't sleep. I also take a calcium supplement.

Hey guys,

I was actually posting regarding my current misuse of melatonin for about the last week. Basically I took it to make self fall asleep faster, I noticed that over the last few days I wasn't able to concentrate or study for my exam effectively. This should normally stress me out, which helps me out to study (I know it's backwards, but I need stress lol). I realized it says stress relief on the container as well, I was hoping to figure out the negative side effects of abusing melatonin I am hoping this is the reason why I wasn't getting stressed out. I NEED STRESS. So if you guys could share your input it would be greatly appreciated.

Sleep apnea could be due to one of several reasons such as stress, tiredness during the day time, irregular sleep intervals, increased workload, etc. and people sometimes find it difficult to cope with these situations and often fall prey to the condition called as insomnia. So. i suggest visit a sleep specialist and help yourself.

at around 0.5-9 grams i believe, above that could probably have some adverse effects, i read up on the psychopharm of it and it didn't say anything about anxiety, but when i take melatonin to sleep i usually feel pretty chill and not very motivated as well (which doesn't usually matter bcuz i want to fall asleep), so who knows, there could be something going on

What do you mean that you're abusing/misusing melatonin? Taking it to sleep is what it's for.

if i do general practice, my medical advice for matters like this will consist of me going to the other room to review cma guidelines online, and then coming back to discuss accordingly, lol

hypothetically though, to patient: "well, i don't see what the problem is, i just go through a bottle of wine, that's why i do the evening shift, if i had to be up at 8 am i'd totally be way to hung over to work," i wonder how that would go?

hahah, i'm actually relieved, i'd be scared of the advice you'd give your patients if you weren't politically correct.

i find 5 mg works on me (as in like 10 minutes - i'm out), but i usually never have trouble falling asleep when i go to bed

i am on my 2nd jar of melatonin and i find that it didn't do much to help me fall asleep. i was taking 5 or 3 mg or g dosages sometime even 10 (mg or g)

I do this in the summer when i am working to help regulate my sleep time, but it has minimal effects on me.

I noticed the exact same problem with melatonin. Sometimes stress is a good thing. The idea behind melatonin is to reset your circadian rhythm, so unless you go to bed at a different time every night, you should only have to take it once in a while (when you want to go to bed earlier for instance). Then of course sleeping in darkness induces the production of endogenous melatonin.

You've got it backwards. Sleep Apnea CAUSES stress, tiredness during the day, and irregular sleep intervals. This happens because in Obstructive Sleep Apnea (by far the most common) is pretty much like choking every 1 or 2 minutes to every 30 to 40 seconds (depends on the severity), and it results in you to not sleeping effectively.
