Mithril
What's to sympathize with? HIS actions created the situation. Had he not stolen the van. Not tried to drive without a lisc. and then tried to get away then the kid would still be able to walk, won't be going to jail and the cop would still be alive but unfortunately his actions caused this mess and therefore should stand trial for first degree murder. Im not sure how you can equate jail time and lost of ability to walk with that of death. Pretty polar opposites. Which do you think is worse? I don't necessarily think that death is always going to be the worst possible outcome in a scenario. Your mindset is that we should stick to the rule of the book with no questions asked. My mindset is the opposite of that in that justice should be blind to any sort of emotional fallacy that you were trying to pull in your last post and crimes should be judged based on the evidence available without regard to one's position or occupation in society. Trying to accelerate away from the cop was no accident, but his death was; there was no premeditated intention of murder and as such the 15-year-old kid shouldn't be charged with such. It's possible to make any murder seem like manslaughter; that's why the justice system is there to discern the details of crimes and deliver, or at least attempt to, a fair and just punishment. Minion
It seems that the first person to cross the line was the cop when he reached inside the car for the keys. Anyway, an unfortunate incident altogether. What a load of bunk. The kid crossed the line the moment he got onto the van.
