arsenal
Any suggestion as how to mark the soap? I have found it challenging with pencil or even marker!
aravis
I mark the soap with a pencil by making grooves.
McMarauder
I scored the soap using the blade. don't dig too deep though.
Adversary
This is a common technique I learned back then. Put your soap on the table. Put your pencil on the table against it. Slide your pencil across the table with the tip against the soap so you mark it as you move. That's as straight as you can make it.
magnesium
Sharp pencil is key! if you slide your pencil across the table make sure it doesn't roll onto an edge (if the pencil has 6 sides) or you'll get wavy lines
emac2014
you dont need longitudinal lines really, and you can't count on them if you make em. Use the bendy ruler to mark everything transverse, then make the depth measurements on the ends. Use these, on both ends lines up wiht the ruler to mark a few spots along your cut where the depth should be (I did all this with sharp pencil, making shallowe grooves). From there eyeball (and purposely underestimate) depth while being even (you'll get better evenness by eye than a ruler or table and an unstable pencil). Then when you're done that go back with a ruler, figure out what you need to shave down, and do it. you're going to shave anyway for smoothness, might aswell not leave yourself ina position for this to take your notches too deep.
