Bummed out

I just wanted some advice regarding financing University.

 

I come from a single parent household, so as you can imagine money is really tight. I don't think I will be able to attend University because I won't be able to afford it. It has always been my dream to be a doctor and I have been volunteering in a hospital since grade 8 (at the candy store to start out then in the different wards when I got older). My marks are great OAC chem 98, OAC calculus 100, OAC Bio 97, OAC English 94. I have won the PrimeMinister's national essay writing contest and have worked 20 hrs/week at a bakery to help my mom while going to high school. The problem is the tuiton+books+living is too expensive and scholarships only give me $1000. Osap only give about 9300 per year. My total expense will be

tuition: $6000

Books: $ 800

Rent+hydro+phone 500*9= 4500

Food 100*9months 900

Misc photcopy etc 300

 

total cost 12,500 and that doesn't include many of the unexpected expenses that may come up. There is not a University close to my home so thats why I would have to live away from home.

 

I think I have the ability to get into med school, but it looks like I may have to settle for working at the bakery forever, since University seems out of my price range. My Mom tries her best, but there is very little that she can contribute.

 

Is anybody else in the same boat? Are there any other loans and stuff available? Any ideas that you have on how I can make this work, I would love to hear. I figure all of you medical school students and University students going to med school are really smart and could maybe share some ideas on how I can afford university. I know my piddly little brain is tapped out
