When do nsercs start and end? Do they take up the entire 4 months (beginning of may to end of august), or can I take a month off before or after the placement? The average duration is from beginning of May to mid-August. You can take 2 weeks off and then write the MCAT at the beginning of September. I'm not sure how flexible your supervisor would be so that's probably something you'd want to discuss with them before signing off your summer.
