Best resources for CDM portion of MCCQE?

Recommended Posts

I did the sample questions for the MCCQE on their site. The multiple choice section was pretty straight forward, but I found the CDM section more challenging. For example: for a smoker with stable angina the only correct investigation was to do a stress test. I'm surprised they wouldn't want you to screen for diabetes and dyslipidemia at the same time, and check a CBC to rule out anemia as a contributor to his ischemic heart disease.

Tl;dr: Anyone know a good resource to prepare for the CDM section?

The 3 strategies to follow in CDM questions are the following.

1) READ the instructions. If it says choose maximum 3, don't choose 4.

2) When the question states "choose as many as appropriate", usually stick to a maximum of 1/3 of the total choices

3) Avoid the "killers"

In the question you are referring to, the stress test may have been the only correct answer, but they do not show the scoring...

Basically, the scoring would look something like this:

-there is 1 point awarded for choosing "stress test"

-they accept a maximum number of answers, but don't necessarily publicize the maximum (so for example, if the max is 7 and you chose 9 answers you get zero)

-Brochoscopy or gastroscopy would be examples of "killers" because they are invasive tests which are not indicated.... So choose these and you also get zero.

Bottom line= diabetes screening and cholesterol are good choices, and while they may not get you any points, they won't hurt you either.

Great advice, and thanks for the explanation about how it works!
