jason1234
Hi guys, I'm new to this forum. I was born and raised in Montreal and I've always attended English schools. I'm currently in CEGEP and I realize that my french sucks. I can read French without much difficulties and I can write well enough for someone else to understand. My main problem is my spoken French. It's so terrible that most times others have no idea what I'm saying. I don't really have anyone to practice speaking in French with. I really want to improve my French this summer and I'm willing to put in as many hours as necessary. I also don't mind paying for classes. Can anyone give me any suggestions? Maybe things that have worked for you to improve your French? Thanks.
dinosaur
Only watch French television/movies. Good for spoken French.
jason1234
Thanks, I'll definitely watch a lot of French media. Do you think it's possible that with enough effort, I'd be proficient enough in French to apply to a French university for 2013 fall? Thanks. DJoe

The dfficulty is that you shall be required to write a very difficult French exam and need a top score to be even able to do the MEMFI if you are selected.

smthg
Eh bien... notre test d'entrée n'était pas du tout pareil C'est un test sur les subtilités de la grammaire et du vocabulaire. Pas la meilleure chose à faire de son samedi matin ;;
Masaya
jason1234
I didn't mean applying to French med schools. What I had in mind is actually applying to école polytechnique for engineering. Does this make a difference? (P.S. I am not interested in medicine. I posted on this forum because it was the most active forum that I found when I searched for quebec forums in google... My apologies.)

jason1234
You should have stated this before... Sorry, I forgot to. On a side topic, my R score is 33.4 (1st semester Pure & Applied) . I think this semester's will be a bit higher. If my final R score at the end of CEGEP is 34-35 , would I have a chance at getting accepted to the Med P program at McGill, if I change my mind? Yes, and into their engineering program (instead of having to go to Polytechnique). But you must have ECs. So, you said you may change your mind.. Medicine seems interesting but I dislike memorizing so I don't think I'll ever be able to survive med school.
Akane
If you live in Montreal, I don't think that you'd have any trouble to find someone who can practice French with you. Where ever you go, try to use French as often as possible As Future Doc has mentioned earlier, TFI has many questions on anglicism which could be confusing for anglophones. Here's a well designed website on French improvement which I found pretty useful for TFI preparation: http://www.ccdmd.qc.ca/fr/
