Guest mintchoco
1) Do you do a general surgery residency and a paediatrics fellowship? Or the other way around? 2) How does one go about becoming a hemo-oncologist? Thanks.
Guest Ian Wong
Peds surgeon = General Surgery residency + Peds surgery fellowship. Peds subspecialty surgeon = Subspecialty surgery residency + Peds fellowship (ie. Urology residency + Peds Uro fellowship = Peds urologist) or Ophthalmology residency + Peds Ophtho fellowship = Peds Ophthalmologist In general, you cannot get to a peds surgery spot by going through a Pediatrics residency, but rather need to start off in a surgical residency, and then subspecialize into the pediatric surgery fellowship. Adult Hem-Onc = Internal Medicine residency + Adult Hem-Onc fellowship Peds Hem-Onc = Pediatric residency + Peds Hem-Onc fellowship Either Internal Medicine or Pediatrics residencies can get you into Hem-Onc, but as a peds Hem-Onc you are going to have a different patient base than a Hem-Onc who treats adults.
