2011/2012 CAPER Census

Recommended Posts

I thought some of you might be interested in the results of the 2011/2012 CAPER (Canadian Post-M.D. Education Registry) Census: http://www.caper.ca/docs/pdf_2011-12_CAPER_Census.pdf

I find it interesting that despite efforts to promote family medicine over the last decade, the proportion of first year trainees in family vs. specialties has remained pretty stable (at about 40% vs. 60%, respectively -- see figure 1). Of course, as class sizes have increased, the absolute number of family doctors finishing is increasing, but I guess this means the number of graduating specialists is increasing similarly. No wonder it's hard to find jobs!
