hi,

I'm a 3rd year life science student at UofT. but I am fluent in french as I am minoring in it and studied in france previously.

and I was wondering...how does the application work for student hors quebec?

I don't really understand what Cegep, baccalaureat and all that are?

is there anyone from an anglophone university that got into UdM? how did u do it?!

what is the cut off GPA? and where does UdM put the importance when looking at applicants' information?

 

sorry...for all those questions thrown all at once..

but...i kinda thought of giving up on my dream (low GPA) for a while..but...i just can't seem to do it! so stubborn and i wanna give it a shot and do the best i can do...

but...yeah..i just read the rest of the forum and i saw two other postings about ontario students applying to UdM.

i also have relatives in Quebec.

how am i supposed to apply? and...if i don't have Cegep mark, how are my entrance marks calculated?!

Hi Bumseng,

As an out-of-province student, your chances would be better at McGill than at U de Montreal, who admits VERY few OOPs, if any.

 

I applied once to U de M, about 5 years ago, when I first came to Quebec, and I was an OOP. I did not get in. Not even an interview.

 

I applied this year as in-province, and I just heard that I was admitted ... mind you, there's still a big hurdle to overcome. I have to take a French Test that could be very difficult for some people.

 

U de M puts a lot of emphasis on your marks. It's supposed to be 50-50 between marks and interview, but the cut-off for marks seems to be quite high. However, the way they re-calculate your grades and weigh them might give you a very different average score than you would expect. I didn't think I would get in with my marks, but I did.

 

I would suggest you go to the U de M faculty of medicine website and look at the admission requirements. Also, if you're really serious about studying medicine in Quebec, you might want to consider moving here after you're done your degree so you can apply as an in-province student.

Juste pour spécifier..

 

Le système d'application pour les facultés de médecine au Québec n'est pas centralisé comme en Ontario. Il faut faire une demande individuelle à chaque université, les coûts sont quand même moindres..La date limite est le 15 janvier.

 

Alors que les universités ontariennes considèrent grosso modo tous les programmes de premier cycle sur le même pied d'égalité. Ici il y a un calcul du "niveau de difficulté" pour chaque programme. Les admissions ne fonctionnent donc pas en fonction de la GPA mais bien de cette cote universitaire.

(la table diffère d'une université à l'autre... mais demeure assez constante)

 

Donc, il faut être dans un programme jugé "difficile" parce que même une moyenne de 4,3/4,3 dans un bac en histoire de l'art ne sera pas suffisant pour se rendre aux entrevues.

 

L'université Laval demande d'avoir un diplôme d'études post-secondaires pour appliquer (je crois que l'udm aussi) alors que Sherbrooke demande de l'avoir complété avant la rentrée. Dans le cas où tu es un résident québécois ( je suis pas certaine) l'udm te demande le bac avec spécialisation pour ne pas être considéré comme un applicant en changement de programme ( ce qui demande bcp plus).

 

Grosso modo.. il faut 33+ ( dans la table mentionnée) pour être un peu compétitif.

UdeM, Laval et Sherbrooke calculent chacun une cote R universitaire, et s'y réfèrent afin d'accorder entrevues/tests d'admission. Toutefois, ils se servent de valeurs différentes pour la calculer, ce qui fait que le résultat varie selon l'université (normalement c'est assez peu). McGill est`la seule à ne pas se servir de cette cote. Elle se fit à la moyenne sur 4 (ouo 4.33).
