RiverCityJill
Just killing time reading last years posts about the stats of who got an interview and some official demographics from the interviews Real Beef posted (which is an interesting post by the way, I believe it is titled Interview Demographics if you want to search for it). It said they interviewed 401 people for the 64 spots. Why do you think (or does someone actually know) they interview so many?
schmitty
Probably because they care more about an applicant's devotion to rural/underserved regions and an interest in rural/native medicine than just marks and ECs. An interview is the best way to weed out those who are 'faking it' just so they can get an MD.
RiverCityJill
That's a good point. If they choose a larger pool to interview, they can rely more heavily on the interview to select candidates. And I could see how the interview might, like you said, be the best measure of the types of qualities and priorities they are concerned with. Makes sense to me . benhc911
interview is definitely the best way to determine a lot of soft characteristics that are easily faked or missed in academics and other application aspects... unfortunately the interview is also the most expensive approach... a lot more expensive than pasting all of the grades into a spreadsheet and sorting from top to bottom haha
Bede
Someone internally told me the AdCom had this discussion internally. If the interview is 50% of the final score and marks/rural/EC make up the rest, if you are on the bottom of the marks/rural/EC, it is mathematically impossible to get in no matter how well you do on the interview. Unless, of course, everyone else brutally flunks the interview.
flora14
wow mathematically impossible? if so that many should not be interviewed!
