AngusIreland Posted May 1, 2013 Report Share Posted May 1, 2013 I'm a Canadian student attending UCC's graduate entry medicine program in the fall and was looking into getting my Irish citizenship by descent (via my grandmother). I was wondering if this is worth my time. I know that it can sometimes be a struggle to land a residency in Canada or the US following graduation and wanted to know if having a Irish citizenship would land me any benefits in applying to either Ireland or the EU if it became necessary for me. After graduation you'll compete with the other non-visa applicants for Irish (or UK, or other EU) post-graduate training. Any applicants who need a work permit for Ireland are only offered jobs AFTER all the EU graduates regardless of ranking. 2.
