helloyou
Since there's a UBC PT thread, I thought it would be nice to start one for UBC OT!! PT interview emails have been sent out. Has anyone received one for UBC OT? Even if I don't receive an interview right away, it would be nice to keep track of those who do and watch the progress of acceptances. rehabscience
Anyone know what grade % they require to get an interview? Is getting an interview only based on your average?
OTbound2014
From what I have heard, PT and OT interviews are both largely based on subGPA. I think from the forum's, last years average was around a 82-84% (low range) to be competitive. Anyone else see this as well? On the UBC website is says over an 80% is normally competitive. rehabscience
84% to get an interview at OT?? Looks like no OT for me
OTbound2014
84% to get an interview at OT?? Looks like no OT for me It varies year to year. I'm simply stating what has been "implied" through other forums. I think anything over 80% is definitely competitive.

OT2014hopeful
I think they sent out the emails on the 20th last year, and since today is the last day they're sending e-mails for PT applicants, I think we can expect the e-mails tomorrow? Anyone know otherwise?
PositiveOutlooks
Last year I got an email on the 19th! - I'm hoping sooner than later this week. Thankfully I'm in province and don't need to book a flight short notice.
ubcOThopeful
No word for me either! Anyone else feel like they are supporting the antacid industry with their level nerves right now!? Also, this is my first time applying - can anyone give me some insight into The interview process? Thank you very much! Good luck
TonyG
I haven't heard anything either. It's my first year applying as well! Super nervous. Anyone care to share their application gpa. Not sure what I'm up against, all I know is that entry to this program becomes more and more competitive every year:(
ubcOThopeful
Mine is 80, the program director told me I had a competitive average. I also have a bunch of experience... Hope that gives me a boost..
TonyG
That's great ubcOThopeful! Good for you I applied with an 82 but am lacking in the experience area so I'm super nervous about that!
OT2014hopeful
I think you guys all sound very competitive! I have an 81 and I think I have a decent amount of relevant experience (i hope, at least). Good luck everyone!
pscgw89
I think last year the cut off GPA for an interview was 80% and it is usually around there. Last year, they interviewed more applicants to keep the cut off GPA lower... I believe. I think the delay means they are trying to keep the cut off GPA lower while not having to conduct too many interviews.
ubcOThopeful
Just to clarify - by cut off you mean: 80% and up were awarded interviews when they met all the program prerequisites?
TonyG
Does anyone how know how much truth there is in gaining admission without interview if you have a very high GPA? I read something about it in another forum but not really sure if it's true.

I read something about it in another forum but not really sure if it's true. I haven't heard anyone. I know they interview everyone that gets accepted though. I feel like there would be a potential problem if they let anyone I'm with a high gpa without actually seeing what their personality is like. I never understood why they cut people off at 80 when applications are B+ I'm surprised she said 80 was competitive because from past admissions it seems like they begin at 80.. Naanot
Last year they accepted 5 people soley based on their high GPA (90-95+%). I was given an interview invitation last year with a 82%, this year I'm at a 85%, fingers crossed I'm given another invitation. My friend called Rehana last year and she said generally anyone over 80% is given an invitation if they meet all other requirements. Good luck everyone. TonyG
Well that's a relief! I read on a previous post that 24 spots were given to people with high gpa's. I thought this was ridiculous. But 5 isn't bad.
vancityOT
Good luck to everyone. Remember, at UBC once you make it to the interview your grades no longer matter that much. The interview holds a lot of weight. Prepare as much as you can, it will really help you. But also, let your personality show through in the interview. They are trying to create a diverse class, so be yourself!

I thought this was ridiculous. But 5 isn't bad. That post is true. I know for sure they did that for grads of 2009 OT. It wasn't a wise decision for the department so since then they've changed the invitation rules. A lot of students were accepted not knowing whether they were cut out to be OT's.
