Where do medical students spend their time?

Hi -

Just wondering if anyone can tell me where the first two years of med school are done at U of M - at the Health Sciences Centre, or on campus at the university?

 

And I imagine clerkship is done mainly at the Health Sciences Centre...?

Preclerkship (1st two years) takes place at the Bannatyne campus (HSC), with some clinical exposure and one week of rural experience. Clerkship takes place mainly at HSC and St Boniface but rotations can take place at any of the hospitals. Family med is typically in a rural area with one or two northern spots.

Thanks for the reply. So where do med students usually live? Close to the HSC I'm guessing?

No you can live wherever. Some people have lived as far away as Selkirk. Some people live in Osborne Village or Fort Garry. It depends on what you value more e.g. staying close to home or staying with your parents, being conveniently close to HSC for classes, quality of your home, cost.

Winnipeg isn't a very big city, you can get pretty much anywhere in 20 minutes. If you take the bus, there are quite a few that go by the HSC. Parking is really difficult/expensive as well.
