PCT6TH
Are IMG's at a disadvantage when it comes to choosing a sub specialty after finishing IM residency ? Would program directors prefer CMG's over IMG's when it comes to a competitive field like cardio ? Or is everyone on the same floor by that time ? Thanks

Thanks Once your at the residency stage, i don't see why it would matter about your medical school. Same with how your undergrad doesn't matter once you're actually a med student. Though maybe the quality of the program you are at for IM could make a difference in the types of opportunities you have? (Academic vs. community ?) but probably a small factor. Edict
Academic vs community would make a big difference in the US actually, since academic programs are viewed as more prestigious as a whole and there aren't exams to distinguish applicants, so reputation of the program and LORs become important. In Canada, all programs are academic so that isn't a distinguishing factor anymore. I don't think IMG vs CMG matters once you are in residency as they will have had a good opportunity to compare your skills on the job and there aren't any IMG/CMG designated spots for fellowship/subspecialty residency either. On top of that for super fellowship, many of the fellows are IMGs who have trained in other places.
