Mcat Scores Are Verified!

Yes true. How helpful is it to have a score above 127 as an IP?

My understanding of what it said in the applicant manual was... you'd get a score of 100 out of 100 if your CARS score was the 'average' score...? Or something to that effect.

But not sure how they'd do that differently, if IP and OOP applicants are evaluated differently when it comes to CARS scores.

U of C uses standardized scoring with a designated score of 100 and a standard deviation of 15.

So let's say the average CARS was a 125 with a standard deviation of 2... if you scored 125 you would get a score of 100, but it's not a 100/100 score... in this case 100 means that you scored the average score. If you scored 127 that makes you one standard deviation above the mean and you'd get a 115 on the standardized score. If you scored 129 you are 2 standard deviations above and you'd get a 130 on the standardized score, 131 would place you 3 standard deviations above and you'd get 145. Likewise, if you scored 123 (1 standard deviation below) you'd get a standardized score of 85 and if you were at 121 you would get a standardized score of 70 because you are 2 standard deviations below the average.

Keep in mind that the average applicant likely has a CARS score greater than 125. In years past the avg VR was an 11 which is ~127 IIRC. So a 127 is ~100, making it pretty damn tough to stand out from the crowd in the CARS section
