Hey all!

I thought I'd start a thread for those that didn't interview this year. (Maybe you got waitlisted like me, rejected (though I'm sure your turn will come!), or didn't apply yet (but will one day!))

So, what's your story? Here's mine:

(the boring, but important stuff!)

Name: macdreams

Age Range: early 20s

Sex: F

(the more interesting info!)

2003 Mac App.: got me to the wait list, we heu! :P

# Times Applied to Mac: I'm a med school virgin; this was my first :)

Education: nearly finished a BSc in psych, zoo and bioethics :D

other stuff...

I started working on next year's application a couple days after the interviews were over. I'm looking forward to getting more health care experience next year and reapplying again (for as LOOOOONG as it takes!! :rollin )

Can't wait to hear your story!!

md

P.S. BEST OF LUCK TO ALL THOSE THAT DID INTERVIEW. My fingers are crossed for all of ya! ;)

I didn't get an interview at Mac this year either. I'm a masters student at U of T. This year was my third time applying and I'm in it for the long haul. I figure the whole process is a bit of a lottery (although don't get me wrong, I sit and critically evaluate myself every year to try and improve my application).

After looking over my application this year I found a spelling mistake which was probably my certain death in this years cycle. Funny thing is I spent about 2 months on those 15 questions alone. The week before it was due, I wasn't able to log on to my account at OMSAS. I thought it was because of the backlog of people. I tried for a couple of days--nothing--called OMSAS---it was the long weekend at that point and nobody was around. I started freaking out and ended up driving to guelph where I had to fill out an application from scratch. My guess is that when I was filling in my answers--I made the mistake not to do a final read. I think my nerves were shot at that point. Lessons learned--finish early and proof read several times.

Stats:

Female, mid 20's

GPA: 3.68

Education: Honours BSc, MSc

Extracurriculars: loads of volunteering in the health care field since childhood. Volunteering in Central America,

National Team sports, publications, conference presentations.

Interviewed at Queens...keeping my fingers crossed...

hi, i also didn't get an interview at mac this year (not even a waitlist letter...although i'm not sure how that works anyways).

as for my stats:

name = mephisto

sex = f

degree = BscH (specialist in neuro + minor in english lit)

gpa = 3.9

extras = 2+ years of research, modest volunteering, worked at sick kids one summer as a blood bank tech

this was my 1st time applying to mac...and i know that if i do decide to reapply, i'll have to do a lot more work on my essay, in addition to bumping up the breadth of my volunteer experiences.

Hey folks

I was wondering why some of you have not applied to other schools. Your stats and activity lists seem really impressive, more impressive than mine :) and i'm in Med school !!!!!!

I really don't know why you gals don't cast a wider net, any reasons ?

Good luck next year, chin up and start the March :)

To address the question of why I didn't cast my net out farther...I never took organic chemistry during my undergrad, which clearly eliminated many of Canada's schools...UBC, UofA, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, McGill, Western, Ottawa. My back up plan for this year (if I don't get in) is to take Orgo and apply everywhere.

I'm currently finishing 3rd year (via summer school) and haven't written the MCATs or taken the multitude of chem courses (!!:o !!) the only other non-MCAT place, Ottawa, requires... so yeah, that's why my net's so small. :b

I may make it bigger in the future... but Mac will still be my number one choice of med school... Gotta Love PBL!! ;)
