Is 80% At Western A 4.0 In The States?

I've heard mixed things. Wanted to confirm once and for all. So I know 80+ at Western is an A, but does AMCAS use letter grades to convert to their GPA? So would a Western 'A' = AMCAS 4.0?

Have you read the AMCAS or AACOMAS applicant manual? I'm pretty sure there is a table in there that answers this. AFAIK the answer is 'Yes.'

Thank you! I've confirmed this based on the 2016 manual. "Please note that AMCAS assigns the same weight (4.0) to grades of A+ and A."

Based on this, in terms of GPA, would I be competitive with... (as a Canadian applicant to US schools)

 

year 1: 2.5 (this year was not at Western)

year 2: 3.7

year 3: 4.0

year 4: 4.0

year 5: 4.0

Without your mcat and the rest of your application we can't say for sure. But if those are all full loads, then yes GPA shouldn't be a limiting factor. Upward trend is strong. But that's just one part.

Oh and also just the limitations you have as an international applicant. Always difficult to tell whether it is worth going down the AMCAS route as a Canadian.
