alextrebek
Hi team, Bit of a specific/maybe dumb question, but I just noticed that certain schools (e.g. U of C) have as a requirement in program descriptions that letters of reference be dated. I didn't think to specify this when I asked for my letters so far. I assume that maybe most referees would do this out of habit, but also don't want to leave anything to chance (especially since U of C is maybe tops on my rank list. Anyone have experience dealing with this? Thanks!
Lactic Folly
CaRMS instructions ask that reference letters be dated.

That's what I was hoping to hear, but couldn't recall what instructions get sent to refs. Appreciate the reply.
ChemPetE
Yup, and it’s obvious to residency programs when you reuse letters if you’re going through Carms the second time for this reason.
Tullius
If one was to reuse letters for a second shot at Carms, why wouldn't the person just ask letter writers to update their letters with a current date?
ChemPetE
Ease, a lot of time you form temporary relationships while on electives, and may be out of touch by then. Also Carms doesn’t delete your old files, so it’s much easier to reuse them. Tullius
Lactic Folly
There is very little time between the point at which one finds out they have gone unmatched and the deadline for applying to the second round in the same cycle.
