Cuttlefish
I've heard and read that keeping a smile is a nice thing to do during the interview, but how do you maintain this if you are discussing a serious issue, or just a topic for which there would be no reason to smile about lol. I don't know if i'm wording this properly but hopefully you guys get the gist of what I'm trying to say

As much as you want to appear open and friendly it would be extremely weird to be so if you are talking about something super serious Some who is deadpan the entire interview is weird. Someone that is non stop cheery is also weird.

Lactic Folly
Perhaps think of it as keeping a pleasant expression, rather than smiling all the time. More applicable to those who might have an unintentionally over-serious or frowning expression in the neutral/relaxed state. Try videotaping a practice interview and see how you come across. SunAndMoon
Smile but under no circumstances should you show teeth. Showing one's teeth is a submission signal in primates. When someone smiles at me, all I see is a chimpanzee begging for its life.

MedCoachMD
Don't forget body language as well. When you are talking about something serious, it might be inappropriate to smile, but you can still show that you are interested with the right body language.
