MedLad
What is the job market like for a general pediatrician in Canada right now? How does it compare to other specialties like FM, EM, psychiatry, neurology, cardiology, OBGYN, general surgery, etc?
bearded frog
Depends on the practice. Almost anywhere you can show up and open a clinic and get referrals, but in places like Mississauga and other high density areas you might find yourself doing more primary-care type stuff to keep up the volume. In terms of inpatient it varies across the country, and hospital. From what I've been hearing is that the prospects for general pediatrics at the moment are pretty good, at least the next few years. I can't comment on other specialties, other than it will probably always be harder for specialists that require hospital privileges than more outpatient focused (psych, FM). NLengr
My center has at least one open position for peds we are having a hard time filling. Mind you, that is because it is a rural practice with lots of call in an undesirable area at a hospital with a ton of administrative and management issues, but it is an open position.
