Why is medical school so cheap in Ontario?

Recommended Posts

It's somewhat subsidized, compare the U of T tuition at 100k for international students. Dental school includes $10000 for dental instruments (https://www.dentistry.utoronto.ca/node/1121).

US tuition varies a lot among schools, that 100k you quote is the absolute maximum, and for non-US students because their schools are also subsidized. Schools like wayne state will be much less for us citizens. Other schools are more in the $50k range for both us and canadian students. Medical school in the US is generally more expensive because there are a lot more less-subsided private schools. State schools are generally cheaper, for instance.

US state schools are subsidized by Medicaid

US private schools and state schools for OOS students arent subsidized I believed

Medicine tuition is heavily subsidized, Im not sure if dental tuition is at all. Dental students also get a lot of dental tools included as part of the 50K in first year.

If you think Ontario tuition is cheap, look up tuition in Quebec or Alberta. On elective, I had staff from other provinces be shocked at the rate of tuition Ontario charges
