IM Program Ranking/Info

Do the Toronto and Mac IM program tend to prefer their own graduates? Is it tougher to match coming from another Ontario school?

For all residency programs due to various factors generally there is a home-school preference, IM included. All else being equal, if it's your goal, it's generally easier to match to your home program. That being said, if you clearly want a certain program and tailor your application around it its certainly possible to match elsewhere.

okay thanks so much. So to make yourself stand out, is it mainly letters of reference and performing well during clerkship (and doing visiting electives at the program you hope to match into?) Do pubs, a strong CV (volunteering/EC's, leadership activities) make much of a difference?

And luck. Lots and lots of luck ;)

it's like back to applying to med school again haha...I wish there was something standardized (equivalent of the USMLE) in canada. So many of these metrics are subjective and can really swing based on how much someone likes you
