US Course Credits Equivalency

Recommended Posts

Greetings!

I am applying to American schools and I am confused about how Canadian University credits are taken into considerations. I graduated from an Ontario University where courses where either 3.0 credits (1 semester) or 6.0 credits (2 semesters/full year). When doing some research on which American schools to apply, many prerequisite courses at American Universities are stated in semester hours, making difficult to compare if I would qualify to apply or meet the requirements. How are credits converted into semester hours?

They're the same thing for the semester system and Ontario schools.

They say semester hour because some American schools like Stanford, UChicago, Caltech, Dartmouth, Northwestern, the University of Washington, and all of the UC's barring Berkeley are on the quarter system and have different weights for their credits and hours. I don't think any Canadian school is on the the quarter system.
