Good news for IMG from NL

They don't want real IMGs. They want Canadians who studied abroad (CSAs), but who were born in the province. It's difficult for NL to retain doctors, even those who have their roots there.

It's an interesting situation since IMG stream was created specifically to allow immigrant IMGs to have access to CAnadian residency positions (following a human rights cases in Manitoba).  Obviously, to overtly discriminate against immigrant IMGs in favour of Canadian-born or Canadian-raised IMGs would seemingly go against the ethical/legal basis of the IMG stream.

So despite, being encouraging towards Canadian-born/raised IMGs  "These additional seats provide a pathway for International Medical Graduates who want to return to Canada to practice medicine and will help to increase the supply of medical professionals." it's phrased very carefully to avoid the implication that immigrant IMGs are not to apply - "The five additional residency seats will now be reserved for International Medical Graduates by way of this dedicated stream in the Family Medicine residency program."  However, it's a bit of a fine line.
