Akanksha
Hello Everyone, I am a third-year student at UBC getting into my 4th year. Here is a little background on my stats. Immigrated to Canada as an international student in 2015 August. Finished a 2-year diploma in 2017 in General Arts and Science. Transferred to UBC in 2021 and graduating in April 2024. GPA 1ST YEAR - 1.88 2ND YEAR - 2.6 THIRD YEAR - 2.9 4TH YEAR - Pending MCAT - not given yet. (Late 2024 or Early 2025) I have a low GPA but an upward trend. Even with the maximum stretch, I cannot score a higher than 3.4 GPA. I plan to work on Volunteer Opportunities, Shadowing, and Clinical experience. I am not sure how to make a stronger profile or repair my GPA. I am unable to find some good advising resources. Any help is appreciated here. Bambi
Unfortunately, you have no chance at this time, even with an upward trend and with a 3.4 GPA. There is no point doing the MCAT at this stage. You need to do a 2nd degree and obtain a competitive GPA. Only then will your MCAT, ECs and Volunteering come into play. You need to find an area of study where you can excel. I note that many med students have studied geography, so I assume but do not know, that it is a subject where one can attain high grades? God luck!
shikimate
Your chances in Canada is zero. If you have PR, you might have a slim chance of success via studying abroad and trying to match to residency either in Canada or the US.
