Does it matter if the majority of my ECs are student group oriented or do admissions have a preference to outside-of-school ECs?

I'm just wondering if anyone knows whether student group ECs or ECs done within the school are weighed relatively lower than ECs done outside of University? Any input is appreciated!

Generally speaking, adcoms value community minded students who demonstrate CanMeds competencies. University is part of the community as is the wider citizenship outside of university. I would think ideally there would be a mix of both, but should you demonstrate the competencies they are seeking, you will be a serious candidate, all other things being equal(or, competitive). I don't think they are directly lowered, but there is utility in going broader. I find it is often more helpful with interview questions as well as the situations you can describe are more "real" and often harder than ones you would encounter within the university.
