bones
Hey guys, here's a fun question that I've been curious about for a while now. Which med classes out there clap after a lecture? In our 2011 class at the U of A, we do it after every lecturer gives their lecture.
Darla
We do too. It makes me nuts, especially when we see these people every day for a week sometimes. Though recently it's started to be used to give the lecturer the hint that the class is over...
Satsuma
Ha ha ha....the anglo side at the Ottawa program does. The franco side does not
Ollie
At UofT (in my class at least), we wouldn't clap for our regular lecturers but we would for people who were just giving one or two lectures.

liszt
Only if it's particularly good. Usually we just get up to get in line at Tim Horton's as quickly as possible.
bayervillager
We clap too here at Queen's (class of 2011). We used to do it after every lecture, but then some people were upset about it diminishing the value and significance of clapping, so we've been clapping less. We also sing "happy birthday" as a class nbetween breaks to classmates on their birthday. After one professor witnessed our clapping, and then birthday song singing, she said that we were all "abnormally happy". LOL.
Rock*
Jeez. When I read the thread title, I could've sworn somebody from my class started it (Calgary class of 2010). We clap for everybody. It started out because we were so eager at the beginning of the year, then it got a little weird since we even clapped after short announcements, and now we clap because nobody cares and we do it by reflex. It's hilarious
The Bunny
oh yeah. I forgot about clapping after announcements in between classes. I am so glad that has died down a little.
nutritional_lee
Why does this happen in med? I've never seen it in any of my undergrad classes... except for at guest lectures. So strange.
Joh
Wierd! We only clap after a guest lecturer or after a regular lecturer's last class (i.e. the end of the semester) in Saskatoon.
The Bunny
I think it starts in orientation when we get all these special presentations from deans and such tp welcome us and then just becomes something we do... I dunno
Blah09
lol. For the past 7 months, I've thought this was a common practice at other undergrad universities, and a former student was carrying over the tradition in our class. It's strange that every school does it.
Pamina
We also do clap after every lecture in Sherbrooke. I think it became like an obsessive-compulsive behavior; we do it to relieve the anxiety. Unit 5: Psych;)
Madz25
Wierd! We only clap after a guest lecturer or after a regular lecturer's last class (i.e. the end of the semester) in Saskatoon. same here at dal
peachy
I haven't really analyzed the clapping behaviour of our class beyond the observation that it's too darn much... I'm always amused when a lecturer will preempt us with something like "You really don't need to clap today. My lecture wasn't that good."
