Menactra Vaccine

As I was making sure my vaccines were up to date for starting med school, my family doc suggested I get the Meningitits vaccine, called Menactra. This isn't one of the required vaccines by the school and costs 144$ off the shelf (I believe my drug plan will cover 80%). Has this vaccine been recommeneded to anyone else? I'm just trying to figure out if the drug rep to my family doc was just a good salesperson or whether meningitis is a legitimate concern for health care workers.

I just got the vaccine covered by OHIP called MENJUGATE and it protects against meningococcus type C. Its the most common strain and....if ure an Ontarian Its free!

My doc also recommended it for me. However, I haven't gotten it yet (I guess I'm cheap). I'm waiting to arrive in ON to see if I can manage to get one for free.

The director of our medical's school's immunization program says that unless we're in a high-risk group, Menactra is not recommended. Even if we're health care workers, and even if it's covered by our insurance.
