n00b
sounds so interesting. How do they actually test you? How do you practice? How do you know if you're doing well?
Contach
if you cut yourself and bleed all over your soap... you aren't doing well.. haha
iamgosu
measure with a ruler to see if your dimensions are correct. it's easy to see if your edges are flat and your angles are good

Nanospeed
Man last november 2008's carving was intense. The instructions were like "carve out a mini-calculator". My buttons were all messed up, and I didn't even have time to add a solar cell. I think that's why I failed the carving section

sammysmile
Practice a lot and be highly critical of your carving. I used the IQ diagrams, and went through a lot of soap. But it paid off with a score of 30 on my DAT. I also didn't use the felt pen to mark my lines, but instead used the blade to etch them in. Make sure you have a sharp blade at the DAT, if they give you a bad one, tell them you need a new one. You might want to bring a spare new one of your own. I don't think you can score that well with a bad blade.
curiousking
apparently wiping the soap on your ass or stomach (wherever you have fat) would make it shine You probably would get higher marks that way fat= good for getting rid of blade marks
