Large-scale Teleradiology Company Launches in Canada

Recommended Posts

Less wait times, I would imagine. But how much less? Like, how much more efficient is 10 radiologists working via teleradiology vs. 10 radiologists working directly at hospitals and clinics?

If the average radiologist interprets 18,000 images per year, can 'teleradiologists' interpret, what, 24,000 images per year?

this is potentially bad

they can potentially replace in hospital radiologist in smaller communities

why is it bad if the result is the same but with improved efficiency? Have each hospital set up IT to handle communications between the teleradiologist and on-site physicians and BAM you have a radiologist who doesn't have to drive 200km to your location. If my source is correct, we are short about 600 radiologists in Canada (a few years ago). It could be a while before we fill that gap with only 78+ spots every year and current radiologists retiring.
