Med Apps- U of T Personal Statement

Hey All,

 

So after some thought, I have decided to apply to medicine while still completing my Physical Therapy degree (meaning, if I got in, I would leave the program half way). I called around and made sure that schools were ok with it.

 

I'm now writing U of T's essay, and I'm wondering whether or not I should mention the fact that I got into PT and what I have learned from it so far.

 

Thoughts??? I'm just not sure if mentioning it is appropriate?

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey! I'm in my first year of an MPH program and i am doing the same thing. My MCAT scores just came out, which means that I literally just started my applications ... Thankfully I'd created an OMSAS account in August.

As to your question, i would think that you should include something about doing the Physical Therapy degree in the statement, since they'll know anyway that you're currently in the PT program.

You have to disclose that you are in graduate school. Is your supervisor OK with you leaving halfway?

 

Not having a letter of support from your supervisor (or a bad one) is a huge flag and almost undoubtedly an outright rejection.

Just so you know...you actually cannot apply to U of T in the middle of a graduate degree. You have to wait until the September before you finish your degree to apply.

I thought so too, but when I checked with Admissions, they said you can, as long as you send in a proof of registration and get the department head to write a letter.

 

But I am making sure tomorrow!!! I'll let you know.
