Internal Electives - Subspeciality or Ward?

Hi All,

 

I have to start booking my internal medicine electives. I really want to match to internal - I'm just wondering, is there any sort of consensus about whether programs prefer if you do subspeciality or ward electives when trying to match? I would appreciate ANY insight you guys have on this. I would like to do subspeciality since we get very little of that at U of T, and since I'd like to see what you will actually do for the rest of your life after you complete your residency, but I'm not sure how this would be viewed.

Both are fine. Personally, I'd do my electives in subspecialty since you probably do a CTU rotation in your core clerkship year. However if I were to do another general internal rotation as an elective, I'd do it in a rural area because CTU are full of med students and residents.
