RyanMaverick
Ok, So I got this idea from the beginning of the UofA video seen here: Here's my proposal: During the MMI there should be one station that is actually a dance station similar to the video. The applicants wouldn't know about it, so they'd all go in super serious trying to bust out some serious moves; however the station itself wouldn't be marked at all. The benefits would be threefold. 1) It'd allow the MMI to select for applications who are able to respond to situations outside their element as well as "move on quickly". 2) It'd be incredibly entertaining for the "evaluators" (who would be current medical students). 3) The station would be recorded and the videos of all the accepted candidates would be compiled and all the new 1st years could watch it together at a big ice-breaking party. I am totally serious about this - how sweet would this be! Anybody have any further thoughts?
thehumanmacbook
Need ethics approval for the recording....as well as consent to show the video as well.... but yes. it should be done. In fact, I say we go even further and install a stripper pole in the middle of the room. AWWWW YEAHHHHHH
notjk
FIRE in the DISCO!!!!!!!!! LOL i would actually burst out laughing if that happened in real life, but then i would have failed that station xD, but then again OP said it won't get marked. kylamonkey
Get me on that pole and I get automatic admission.
RyanMaverick
I know its only been 3 posts, but i really think this is one of my best ideas to date - and that's sayin something.
Leon
^ lol. I think we'll see the average GPA of the entering class drop significantly if such a station was graded hahaha
dentopia11
yeah..it will also help weed out poor dancers who have been granted admissions for all these years
apache
i think i deserve partial credit, at least for my music suggestion, i believe it was: that would make for an interesting station indeed, and weren't the interviewers supposed to dance with the interviewees? I know its only been 3 posts, but i really think this is one of my best ideas to date - and that's sayin something.

kylamonkey
i say no...just....no. i'm too old for this! I'm older than you- I'm firmly on the side of having a pole. If it comes to fruition, Ryan can tip me off and I'll hold a special MMI prep weekend for PM101 members. I've taught men and women in the past. Lactic Folly
Not as entertaining as the threads that would pop up on PM101 after the interview if this ever happened.
thatonekid
I'm with lost, unless we can just make it a general talent portion. That way they could have a chance to see who is BSing on their activities section too.Actually, this is a good idea (though probably not feasible). thehumanmacbook
completely unfeasible. They'll need at least 4 different instruments for me. For others I'm pretty sure they'll need a pool and/or other equipment...
RyanMaverick
I'm so dissapointed in the guys saying this is a bad idea even after all the ladies have been lobbying for a pole to be included. What are you thinking boys?

Larrivee
Completely agree with Para D. I think a talent portion would be awesome, and I would 100% vote for that. If someone put on their application that they have been playing the piano since they were in their mother's womb I think they should have to prove that they're at least decent at piano. Also, it would definitely show how we perform under pressure (but I guess the whole MMI process does that already, but this is in a different kind of pressure, the pressure of meeting pre-existing expectations of you from what your application says). I think it would be really fun!
ubcMDhopeful
I agree with the talent show idea. I will bring my PS3 and demonstrate my fps skills. That will definately get me into med school.
blue2009
Before my first MMI, I had a dream that I walked into a station, and they had my violin there. They asked me to play something for them and I launched into an irish jig of some kind and the interviewer got up and danced around.
jp.mylittlepwny
I support this idea. However the 'surprise' station would have to be changed to something different year after year to prevent rehearsed routines, and to keep it spontaneous.
