Gold Stethoscope

Recommended Posts

Let me preface this: this is an actual serious question!

Has anyone seen anyone wearing/using one of these?

It's a gold plated Littmann II stethoscope. Would it be outrageous to buy this? I don't want to be a pimp doctor or anything ridiculous, I just think it looks nice. Or will I look like a jerk?

I have never seen anyone with a gold steth. I don't think it is that over the top, however that vast vast majority of med students go with the litt cardio III -> has both adult and peds diaphragms and you can take the diaphragm off the peds side to get a bell. many people just place steth on patient with no additional pressure to mimic bell but a cardiologist I was with the last few weeks preferred having the actual bell... that's one person's opinion and I couldn't hear a discernible difference. ANYwooo you'll find yourself being by far in the minority going with cardio II. I got the all black cardio III and it is sexilicious :P

It's not gold plated, it's just brass. Littman has one as well, they sell them with all the other colours; I have one, as do plenty of people in my class.

Someday when it's time to upgrade my stethoscope I want to make this one look all steampunk and put it on display somewhere.

It is gold plated the one you're linking to is the Cardiology III with brass finish, I'm linking to the Master Classic II, that has gold plating (special edition).

You can amplify sounds that are harder to hear. Might be able to record them too? Not sure about that.

you certainly can! You can also transmit the sound to a laptop for analysis, and they have noise cancellation. Oh yeah!

The best part though is when the cardiologist says "can you hear that faint systolic murmur?" and you are thinking - no I heard the that loud whooshing sound after I turned up the volume?.

Do you have one? I know some profs don't like the idea of students having them as they want them to be comfortable with a traditional stethoscope.
