Guest DHP62
I was wondering what program directors looks for when evaluating applicants for residency. Is it mostly marks/research/references? Or do they also look for extra-currics, volunteer work, involvement, well-roundedness etc like they do when applying for med school? Thanks! Guest UWOMED2005
Check below - I think we've had a number of discussions about this in this forum. But it's kind of combination of both groups of things you mentioned. . . my understanding is that marks don't matter a great deal (many schools are Pass/Fail) but research, extracuric, awards, leadership, etc. all play big. Perhaps even more so letters of reference, and the fact you'll get a chance to do electives with the programs your applying to. Finally, there's the interview. Think of it as if you were applying for a job. What do employers look for?
