greengrassgrows
Can anybody comment on what kind of vacation time residents get? I assume it can't vary too much across different specialties... but perhaps I'm wrong and correct me if you know of any variances. When looking at the program descriptions on the carms website, the breakdown of rotations usually adds up to 52 weeks per year.... So it got me worried that there is NO time off. WHAT ABOUT CHRISTMAS?!??!?!
Dream Big
Hey! So as part of our contracts we get 4 weeks of vacation per year. This means you take time off a rotation to take vacation. For example I have a two month rotation coming up that I will be taking a week of vacation during. So instead of 8 weeks of the rotation I am only doing 7. I'm not sure how Christmas/New Years works in other provinces but in Ontario we get 5 days off for either Christmas or New Years. And we also get 7 days of professional leave that we can take whenever. So when you add it all up you get almost 6 weeks off in the year if you take it all. Hope this helps. Lactic Folly
If you go to the CaRMS website, there is a page on the benefits under each province's contract, including vacation time: http://www.carms.ca/eng/r1_program_salaries_e.shtml
