Best electives in fourth year for Psych?

Recommended Posts

I found useful things to be:

  • Internal Medicine - Endocrine
  • Emergency Medicine - Rural or Urban
  • Emergency Medicine - Rapid Assessment Unit
  • Public Health - Mental Health Outreach
  • Psychiatry - Addictions
  • Psychiatry - Family Therapy
  • Psychiatry - Consult Liaison
  • Internal Medicine - Palliative Care

:) And of course whatever you're interested in!

I'm trying to set up a neuro and family elective. Potentially palliative care.

Neuroradiology too potentially. I'm aiming for stuff that'll prepare me for the off service rotations during PGY-1, with the exception of IM.... haha despite knowing I'll rotate through it, I can't bring myself to sign up for extra CTU if I don't absolutely have to.

Neuro-rads would have been SO useful to have on neurology.

  • 8 months later...

Anyone have further thoughts on what psychiatry electives are the best for figuring out what programs are like, and getting some solid clinical experience, and hopefully enough time with a single preceptor to get a decent letter?

I am thinking of going to Toronto, Ottawa, BC, and Calgary.
