xkittens
Really? You should understand that this is a completely meaningless list. He's not asking you to vote for him to be the next prime minister, I bet he thought it would build up some school spirit *which york students don't have, for obvious reasons*. Considering how it's york (and you go there) you should want all the good publicity you can get right now, he sent a polite message asking you to vote... don't take your frustration about york out on the guy most of the things that are going on aren't his fault. nem90
The point is most of the other candidates don't have the leverage of 60,000 voters. But who says all Yorkers are voting for him? It's good publicity for the whole cause. Really great candidates with inspiring stories!
future_doc
I would not have heard of it otherwise.
nauru
I thought of that as well. We should therefore think that LORs (leveraging relationships) are immoral. Only logical conclusion. He isn't leveraging relationships. He's leveraging a university-wide email list that is only supposed to be used for official business, in order to spam tens of thousands of people he's never met for the sole purpose of benefiting himself. Television
He isn't leveraging relationships. He's leveraging a university-wide email list that is only supposed to be used for official business, in order to spam tens of thousands of people he's never met for the sole purpose of benefiting himself. He's also not asking for personal details or personal recommendations the way an LOR would. He's staying within the context of his relationship with the general York population. And the fact still remains, given what people in this thread have said, that this guy works for the York population. He's done something for them, it's not too much to politely ask them to do something that's beyond minor for him. In fact, it may not be solely for his benefit. It could eventually benefit York if people see the President of the University win an award.
