masterb
I have been looking into different EM programs across Canada and US, it seems there are certain programs in the US that are significantly better than some/most programs here. Is there a way to be able to rank those programs higher than programs in Canada in the match process?
ellorie
The two matches run independently, so whichever one runs first (usually Canada) will try to match you, and if you are matched in Canada you will be automatically withdrawn from the US match. If you apply to programs in both countries, you will only match in the US if you fail to match in Canada. The only way to "rank" programs in the US higher than Canadian ones is if the US match were to run first, which almost never happens, or if you don't rank any Canadian programs. Satsuma
I have been looking into different EM programs across Canada and US, it seems there are certain programs in the US that are significantly better than some/most programs here. Is there a way to be able to rank those programs higher than programs in Canada in the match process? Before you head off to the US because you perceive their training to be superior to Canada, you should determine whether you can come back to Canada to practice (if you want that option) given their training is 1-2 years shorter than here. Contact the RCPSC and ask.
leviathan
Things are always changing but I know a few people who did EM in the states now working in Canada. I don't think they get Royal College certification though.
Dany
all the emerg recruitment ads require "CCFP-EM, FRCPC or ABEM" certification. So I think American EM residency training is acknowledged here in Canada
