A town funding a residency spot?

Is it possible for a township to fund a residency spot for a CMG who is willing to offer a ROS? If this is possible, what would be the next step? Talk to the Ministry of Health in the province? To a University Program?

I'm pretty sure this used to happen, at least here in Ontario. I think it's no longer allowed...maybe it happens off the books.

 

5-10 years ago there wasn't the same push for an increase in med student and residency positions, so there was room to have another resident in many programs. I think it's getting to the point that there just aren't enough positions to train people reasonably, as opposed to a funding gap. (Not absolutes, but it's leaning more towards being overcrowded.

 

Towns do offer funding in return for an ROS commitment. So that avenue is still available.

I was wondering if it was possible to get a spot, as you say, off the CaRMS books through a locally funded position.

I don't think so - I asked a bit and it seems that isn't going on.
