Struggling
Title. Thinking of doing medical school in Saskatchewan but I want to move back to Alberta eventually.
ChemPetE
Go where you think you will be most successful. Which usually means proximity to your major social supports. When is eventually?

My wife and I have really strong social supports in Saskatchewan right now and love it so our social support here is strong, but we have family all over Alberta as well. Is it a lot easier to get a residency in the province you complete medical school in?
billy55555
Sounds like u should favour Saskatchewan given your married. Otherwise you'll possibly put unneeded strain on marriage, her support if pregnant in future or you both need help with childcare etc...residency will work itself out but your next 4 years is the priority now with your wife. Struggling
Thanks, that makes sense. Is there data for trying to match out of province?

Is there data for trying to match out of province? 36th diapo shows mobility of medical students applying to CARMS. Around 25% of graduates change province for residency. https://www.carms.ca/pdfs/2019-CaRMS-Forum-data.pdf
JohnGrisham
That said there is a lot of self selection bias. People end up wanting to do residency where they do med school because that is often where their social network is.
jdtomdhopeful
Would highly recommend doing med school/residency in the province you want to end in eventually. It helps build your professional network early on ChemPetE
