The188
Hi Guys, I understand that this topic has been discussed occasionally on these forums, but could any current UBC medical students share their experiences regarding class/lecture attendance - especially now that academic environments are having the same atmosphere as Pre-Covid19? Specifically, are there any days when one does need to travel to campus at all or alternatively: Are lecture materials available via recordings/pdf files? With the cost of living in mind, I live in Abbotsford and I am deciding if should move closer to the Vancouver campus. Thank you!
Pterygoid
There will be mandatory in-person small groups sessions in first year - MWF that start at 8am. There will also be anatomy labs (1/wk), and there has been a policy change that has made them mandatory because attendance was poor. I would advice living nearby because of this for QOL! frenchpress
I commuted from Vancouver to Chilliwack and Abbotsford many weeks when I was doing ICC and it was exhausting - and that was living next to the highway in Vancouver (no city driving) and going against rush hour traffic. I think going the other way all the way to UBC would be hell. When you factor in the cost of gas and parking you’ll likely save less than you expect. It’s also very hard to get to know your classmates, do study groups, etc, when you’re commuting 3 hours each day or aren’t on campus at all. So I’d also advise moving closer.
