JC5
So I'm (finally) writing update letters et. al and I have a question: How can we confirm that they received it? Some schools give me a reply but other schools don't (and I know the latter accept updates!) EDIT: I'm sending them by e-mail
ChicoMaki
Well, I've sent both a hard-copy letter (express-post with tracking) and attached as a .pdf in an email. I was told it is okay to ask them to confirm that they have attached the letter to your file..
MSB
SO I know May 15 is the day we need to decide on a school choice.... but I only have one acceptance. Is there a form I need to fill out through AMCAS or something? Or does holding only the one acceptance count as my choice? Is there a form I need to fill out through AMCAS or something? Or does holding only the one acceptance count as my choice? I believe that is the case (your last sentence) as long as you have your stuff up to date with NYU. If you have multiple, you have to tell individual schools that you are going to withdraw, otherwise with a single, the school is anticipating that you are attending. Guest viscous
yea i don't get what S+, S- and numbers mean S+ means post-secondary rejection. S- means pre-secondary when applicant got rejected before he/she sent in a secondary. S- could also mean that secondary was not even sent by the school when the school rejected the applicant. charmer08
As with the thread in the General Premed Forum, here's a quick questionnaire regarding the US med school admissions process. If you can copy and paste the below form, and fill it out for with your experiences applying to US med schools, that'd be awesome. If you want to contribute your GPA and MCAT stats in addition, that's great too. ------ I'm a (Province or State) resident in (undergraduate or graduate) studies, and have (Canadian or US or XYZ) citizenship. My GPA was (XYZ) and my MCAT scores were: Physical Sciences: (x) Verbal: (y) Biological Sciences: (z) Written Sample: (z) I was (accepted/rejected/waitlisted) by XYZ med school. This is my (first/second/third/more than third) time applying to this school. Accepted at: MCW, Wash U Rejected at: Hopkins Waitlisted at: BU Of all the schools I applied to, I'd like to attend (XYZ Med School) as my first choice. ------ Ian Can't you guys put your gpa and mcat scores instead? I don't think anyone cares if you were rejected S+ or S-..... Without the gpa and mcat scores, this thread doesnt make sense.

I'm going to wait for the Financial Aid Packages before making any rash decisions (Columbia is my dream school and I fell in love with Northwestern and Chicago when I was there). smartalleck2
Congrats ChicoMaki... we might be classmates at P&S together. What are your thoughts on the U of T vs Columbia decision irrespective of financial constraints?
ChicoMaki
to me, they are roughly the same. The curriculum (until recently) was very similar, but I am a fan of the 1.5/2.5 split. In terms of living, NYC is a very big city and i do have some family within 20-30 min transit in NJ and NY. I feel that the opportunities at Columbia are slightly greater (transplant pager among others) vs Toronto to get involved with the hospitals. I do like the smaller class at Columbia as well. In terms of reputation, Columbia is, at least IMO, greater than UT. If cost was equal, I would go to Columbia in a heart-beat.
ChicoMaki
Well, it was probably the hardest decision of I've had to make so far, but I had to turn-down offers to Columbia and Northwestern due to financial reasons. I just can't justify the $ difference between UT and these two schools (>6 figures).
