I do like the smaller class at Columbia as well. In terms of reputation, Columbia is, at least IMO, greater than UT. If cost was equal, I would go to Columbia in a heart-beat.

cocacola, go get a copy of MSAR - see if they have one at your school's library or the public library. It lists all the info about the range & mean GPA/MCAT of students accepted at each school, along with selection factors, tuition, residency requirements, etc.

In addition to using the MSAR, I'd suggest looking at Keith's updated list of schools accepting Canadians in that thread. It was a lot more useful to me than the MSAR book. After choosing the schools from Keith's list, then input your scores into the LizzyM spreadsheet on the SDN forum and apply accordingly.

I withdrew from my UNC and Baylor wait lists prior to May 15th for fear of being accepted (was accepted at McGill on the 7th, so I didn't want to risk being confused even more with those two schools).

 

I also withdrew from Minnesota prior to them releasing their decision (accept/reject/WL). Word of advice to future applicants, maybe a good idea not to apply to Minnesota if you're trying to keep your list short. They don't handle their international applicants like other schools do and waited until the very end of the cycle (I think other intl people heard after May 15th, which is the latest I've seen any school give their decision) to tell ALL international applicants what their decision was. It sucked because I interviewed in October and they didn't end up "rolling" decisions for us internationals. Also, they kept telling people different things on how many seats were available for us (2-6 depending on when/who you asked). Felt good to tell them thanks but no thanks. haha

I was complete in mid to late Sept. I applied with amcas gpa > 3.75 and mcat >34.

 

Keep in mind that it seems Saint Louis over accepted people and naturally I only interviewed for the waitlist. I am glad that I was able to get a spot. But paying upfront for tuition really kills. And when you have Wash U right across Saint Louis, one wonders if it is really worth it to go to St Louis. I guess I would have if things had not worked out for me.

Yes, I got accepted to grad school and I was actually gonna meet my supervisor tomorrow to discuss what I'm researching, since I told him that I'd wait til August since that's when waitlist season ends, Well lo and behold, I should have waited longer .. because all he's gonna get tomorrow is a thank-you card from me

Thanks! LOL It's more like a mystery than a secret .. and even I don't know what it is.

 

OK .. I was waitlisted since March, and called the office about once every 2 weeks to check on my status / say "i'm still interested in getting picked from the waitlist, pretty please!". Kept that up til either late July or mid August. Then got the call from the office yesterday, which was the 4th day of orientation.

 

My advice? Apply early (my EVMS app was submitted in late July) and don't turn down the interview if it seems late (mine was in late Feb when a waitlist had already been building and the class was full and I was convinced the interview would be futile) and keep up a tiny bit of hope during orientation week - you NEVER KNOW if you'll be like me, the (most likely) last person accepted in the class, and suck it up if it means picking up and moving in a matter of days - what's missing 1 week of school when you have 4 years to finish the M.D. degree??
