Applying to U of A

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I apologize for boring you with this thread... but if someone could help, that would be much appreciated.

I am an Ontario applicant.... and OMSAS babies us up and we get overall info on every school and it's quite easy for us.

But for U of A, I just went to their website... and all I gathered was this info:

http://www.med.ualberta.ca/education/ugme/admissions/dofm_stats.cfm

I am actually close to / above those average numbers.... but my question is what are the actual cut-offs??

Secondly, can I apply without having a prerequisite complete (organic chem / english), as long as I have them done by the time I enter?

Thirdly, are OOP's treated differently? (i.e. do we have different cut-offs etc) I see that 11 were OOP ACCEPTED applicants... but is there info as to how many OOP applicants there were?

Thanks very much!

Hey,

I'm from Ontario too!

If you go to this website (http://www.med.ualberta.ca/education/ugme/admissions/dofm_require.cfm), it will tell you the exact cutoffs you're looking for. I'm not sure if OOP students are treated "differently" by having to pass higher cutoffs. If you go here (http://www.med.ualberta.ca/education/ugme/admissions/dofm_selection.cfm), it will tell you that the numbers of OOP students accepted are limited to 15% of the incoming class. It IS tough to get into UofA as an OOP student. However, I made it! :o If I did it, you can definitely do it. :)

Remember that, in Ontario, you have to get 90% or above to get 4.0. However, here, 85% or above translates into 4.0 (unless they've changed it since last year). Your GPA calculated according to the UofA system may be higher than your OMSAS CGPA.

Good luck! :) Let me know if you need more help.

Whoah, really? Can some current/past applicants confirm this?

Just called U of A's Registrar's and if you're from Ontario, it's broken down like this:

87-100: 4.0

86: 3.9

83-84: 3.8

82: 3.7

81: 3.6

80: 3.5

Hmmm...she didn't mention an 85...probably a 3.8.

So I guess it's good new for those of you with grades of 87-89 in courses, even an 83, but not good news for courses with an 80/81.
